Tsunami that waits for Christianity.

CNI. Gujranwala. December 26th 2004 will be remembered for the disaster that killed thousands of people in Asian countries. The death toll has yet to be known by the world. It is feared that more than two hundred thousand men women and children have perished in the deadly waves of Indian Ocean. The final destruction report has yet to come and it might take weeks even months before the world comes to know the extent of damage to life and property in the Tsunami affected countries. We the Christians of Pakistan are saddened and extend our deep feelings of grief and sorrow to the families and the nations affected by Tsunami.

Earthquake and Tsunami are unpredictable and uncontrollable. Yet Tsunami does give some warning. In case of India and Sri Lanka, it is said that there was enough time to evacuate if the warning had come in time. Earthquake is rather local and thus to some extent, is limited to a specific area. Where as Tsunami is not confined to specific area or country. It can hit as far as 5,000 kilometers from its place of origination. The surface of water in Indian Ocean was calm, usual and normal. At least it looked to be normal. Yet under the surface was the death and destruction for all. There may be hundreds of thousands of untold stories of human miseries that will never be known to mankind.

We sensed and predicted a Tsunami back in March 1993 that hit the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in September 2001. And very recently we have predicted an other Tsunami that is ready to erupt beneath the calm surface of the waters of Islamic faith. At this moment all we see is silence, a deep silence that I am afraid will erupt very soon, if not for the Christians any where else but in Pakistan. I mention Pakistan because there is hardly any other Islamic country that has such a big Christian population (Around Seven Million). And because Pakistan is the only Muslim state that claims to be friendly to wards Christians and Christians enjoy more freedom here in Pakistan as compared to other Islamic countries.

Despite all freedom and claims of equality first and foremost problem that we see under the calm sea is the strength or number of Christian citizens. The Christian population according to consciences of 1981 stands between 1.5 million to 2 million. Our official percentage is 1.58 out nearly a population of 150 million. That is not true. This is an act to undermine our presence, strength and eventually presenting the Christian population as “negligible” in Pakistan. This results in majority to look down upon us as a powerless and a dependant community. This also blocks our representation at the level of 1981. In 1985 general elections Christians had four seats in National Assembly, 24 years latter they have the same number of seats. Christians had no representation in Senate in 1985, they have no representation in Senate in year 2005. Muslim women had only 10 reserved seats in National Assembly in 1985 they have 60 reserved seats in National Assembly in 2005. I have failed to comprehend that in 24 years Christian population stands right where it was in 1981. During general election 2002 under joint electorate system, Muslim women got “Party Tickets” yet no Christian was given a single “Party Ticket” and today Christians do not have any “direct” or their own elected representative in National or any Provincial Assembly. In year 2002, all political parties auctioned the reserved seats for minorities or “None Muslim Pakistanis”. Who so ever paid more got a seat at National or Provincial level. (I often say that there is only one person in Pakistan whom I elected and that is General Pervaiz Musharraf as I voted for him in April 2002 Referendum). In almost 80 Federal Ministers, no Christian could find place and in Punjab the only Christian Provincial Minister is a woman who “deals” with Minority Affairs. This is the situation with Christians in Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Karachi and Peshawar, power centers. Yet what about the rest of the country? We can divide Christians in “four distinct” groups or categories. (I) The elite class, that is the religious leadership of so-called mainline churches and the senior serving and retired armed forces and civil officers and the employees of multinational companies. This category is not concerned what happens with their fellow Christians in Pakistan. The situation of Church of Pakistan is only one example. (II) The employees lower class government and private sector employees. This category is too small to be seen active in any activity that may bring a change in governmental and private sector policies concerning Christian community in Pakistan. (III) The common Christians living in slums and Christian settlements around the cities or in the cities. This category faces constant discrimination at all levels, private or public. Thus this category remains ineffective. (IV) The poor Christian community that lives in the villages. Eighty percent of all Pakistani population lives in villages and therefore Eighty percent of Christian population also lives in villages. This category takes the maximum from the Muslim majority of Pakistan in different ways. In day to day life the last two categories face discrimination in very strange way. A village Christian is not offered a chair or any thing in presence of Muslims. He/she has to keep standing or if asked to sit down, they sit on ground. They have separate utensils like “glass” or “plate”. They are least and last to be served and even the cobbler or the barber services are not available to local Christian. (During Christmas Service in Gujranwala, the Policewomen did not drink water in a glass or from a Christian home, yet their thirst had to be taken care off with “soft drinks” by the Elders of the congregation). A heinous crime is committed against the Christian community and the Police do not register a criminal case. If it does the aggrieved Christians are forced by the Police to settle their complaint outside the court. In November 2004, a “butcher’s son imputed the right arm of a Christian youth for not obeying him. A case was registered, yet after few days the Christian youth and his family had to compromise with the “butcher’s boy”. In a village near Sialkot, some Muslim miscreants shoot and wounded a Christian youth; he survived but lost his one eye. He had to compromise with the miscreants and their families. During Christmas vacations, a pastor from the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan came to me and sought my help in a very serious yet very common issue with the Christians. Pastor’s niece was kidnapped by the Muslim youth of the village, she was raped for five days. A gang rape case was registered. The culprits were apprehended. Yet they were granted bail by the court. The penalty for “gang rape’ is Death. What really happened, that the criminals belonged to “A” clan or group (Rana clan or group). Rana clan approached “Rana Clan” at all levels and the culprits went home safe and sound. The “Christian Clan” was abandoned at all level of law and justice. These are only few examples of the ordeal of Christian community in Pakistan. On the other hand we see government officials and other dignitaries attending Christian festivities and we see basic human needs being provided to Christian settlements, like electricity, fuel gas, brick roads and sewerage facilities. Recently a senior Federal Minister donated two carpets for a local church in Qasur District and the local and church leadership was so pleased that they praised that Federal Minister more than they praised God. What we have not understood so far is that we are being given lollypops and not the rights. The Christians have the right to worship, but need to inform the local police. “For safety reasons of course”! We have right to live but under the domination of all small and big “brotherhoods and clans”. We have right to buy and sell property, yet in villages and smaller cities we have to sell it to Muslims on the price fixed by them. We have right to breathe yet we have to breathe in a different air or atmosphere. What is considered a “right” for the Muslims, it is given to us as privilege. The Muslim “Political cum Religious” parties and groups disgrace our people in our churches and worship places. I need not to narrate the agony and fear of “blasphemy Laws” for Pakistani Christians.

In this situation, what else could be seen beneath the surface of the calm waters of Pakistan? An active underwater hate volcanoes. Lots of Tsunamis and anticipated destruction that ought to follow. Yet we wait for that time but not prepare ourselves. We shall keep turning the “other Cheek” but we would not buy a sword, because we are Christians? Because we are taught by the Missionaries to be polite and our friends abroad that any concession given to the Christians of Pakistan will become a “Human Right Issue”. I was told by the British High Commissioner in Islamabad very recently. It seems that in the eyes of many people in the world, we the Christians of Pakistan are not “human beings”, therefore we have no “human rights”. We are not even minority in Pakistan. We are none Muslim Pakistanis. I have read and heard the term “Black Americans” or “Hispanic Americans” but never have I read or heard the term, None Christians Americans or British or for that matter None Christian Europeans. Three years ago I wrote, “Drowned in the Mainstream” and pointed out who arranged this drowning of Christians of Pakistan in main stream of None Christian Pakistanis? The so-called Christian world (that does not exist any where to the best of my knowledge and understanding) and the Pakistani Christian community living in safe havens have separated themselves from their roots in Pakistan, we might have to struggle for a separate Christian state in the sub continent. Not Takistan but a Christian Republic of Pakistan.

28th December 2004

A Dinner of Constraint. Or in Urdu, Majboori Ki Ziafat.

CNI. Islamabad. On 27th of December 2004, President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, General Pervaiz Musharraf invited the Christian leaders from all over the country, at President House Islamabad for a “Christmas Dinner”. Among the invitees, were the church leaders, senior Christian military officers, both serving and retired. Notable Christians from Rawalpindi and Islamabad. A good number of foreign Diplomats mainly from European countries, (the United States of America and the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka General Srilal Weerasooriya who is a Christian General who graduate of Pakistan Military Acadmy Kakool, Abbottabad. The Prime Minister, Federal Ministers and members of National Assembly.

Since General Pervaiz Musharraf came to power on 12th October 1999, Mrs. and Bishop. Dr. Major (Retired) Timotheus Nasir attended the “Christmas Dinner” for the first time. Bishop Nasir, who prefers to stay in Gujranwala and spend Christmas and New Year with his family and local congregation, decided to attend the “Christmas Dinner” this year at last. Yet he said that he wanted to attend the “Christmas Dinner” as a “Reporter” and not as a Christian Leader. He is of the opinion that such dinners are nothing but a “Policy Dinners” to let the world know, how good the Christians and other minorities are cared for and looked after by the government of an Islamic State. Therefore such parties and dinners mean nothing but an act done “by force of circumstances”. Bishop Nasir’s report for Kalam-E-Haq and CNI, is narrated below.

“The time of the dinner was 7:30 PM and the guests started arriving around 7:00 PM.  By 8:00 PM most of the guests arrived that included a good number of Federal Ministers and the Speaker of National Assembly. The President General Pervaiz Musharraf and the Prime Minister Shoukat Aziz arrived at 8:30 PM. When both of them entered, they stood at the door of the “Reception Hall”, National anthem was played and sung. The guests or invitees then walked in a queue, shook hands with the President and Prime Minister. Heard welcoming words from both and went to the dinning hall. Stood around the tables and when the president arrived and occupied his chair, the guests also settled on their respective seats. The dinner (a typical military dinner) was served, course after course and ended in about Twenty Five minutes. Then the President addressed the “elite” gathering and extended his “New Year” greetings to all and “Christmas greetings” to Christians and foreign diplomats. Expressed his respect and regard for “Hazrat Essa” and informed the gathering that every Muslim by faith has to accept Essa as a Prophet and respect Him. Former Federal Minister for Minority Affairs Colonel S. K. Tressler spoke on behalf of the “None Muslim Pakistanis” a term introduced by the government of Pakistan to conceal the identity of the Christian minority of Pakistan. After the address of Colonel Tressler, the President, the Prime Minister and the Federal Ministers went home and the guests went “home” too.

It is an honor for any citizen on any country to be invited by the head of state, ever over a “cup of tea”, but the way this “Christmas Dinner” was conducted, is not appropriate. It looked as all Federal Ministers were there because they had to be there. Apart from Mr. Ijaz ul Haq, Mr. Danial Aziz, and Mrs. Zubaida Jallal, every minister looked sick and uncomfortable and restless. Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, Minister for Information and Broadcasting was sitting in the far most corner of the banquet hall. Though most of government representatives were talking to the invitees or guests, yet their facial expressions were strange. It looked as “Royalties” were forced to meet the “peasantry”. Then came the President and the Prime Minister, with the same “facial expressions” and “Policy Smile”. Usually in such gatherings the President or/and the Prime Minister, mix up with the people and have a brief chat with small groups of the guests. Yet in this “Christmas Dinner” this was avoided. There were more than twenty federal ministers, but they were seated on one side of the dinning hall. (It would have been good if one Federal Minister had been seated at each table and talked to the guests. Tried to find out if any one had any problem or matter to bring to the notice of the government or the President or the Prime Minister. But it seemed that a message had to be conveyed to the American, European and other diplomats that the Christian minority is so loved by the President, the Prime Minister and the government of Pakistan that despite their tight schedule, Christian community is so dear to them that they had to have a “Christmas Dinner” at such a high level. Their was no “Press” coverage. Pakistan Television showed some glimpses that one could only see the President. Even Colonel Tressler’s speech was not shown on national television the Dinner was good but the taste was bitter.” Said Bishop Nasir.

The Causes of the crises in the Church of Pakistan

By: Julius Danish

CNI Karachi. The Church of Pakistan is presently within the focus of the Churchmen all over the world. Unfortunately there are no Church historians who would help the Christians Community all over the world for a neutral analysis of the events that led to the scenario where millions of the members of the Church of Pakistan are suffering because of the disputes amongst the leadership within the Church of Pakistan.

Coming into existence in 1970 on All Saints Day through the union of the Anglicans, the Lutherans, the Methodists and the Church of Scotland the Church of Pakistan was further divided from four into eight Dioceses mainly due to the disputes of property rights between the Dioceses of Lahore and Multan.

1. The Cause of the Crises:

Although united, the Church of Pakistan remained bitterly divided over two main issues.

      1.  Properties:

      2.  Personal values of the Bishops/Pastors of the Church of Pakistan:

Although the uniting Churches agreed to form a Trust of the Church in its constitution in 1970, they did not transfer the properties to the Church of Pakistan Trust or the respective Dioceses.

Disputes at an early stage bitterly dividing the Church mainly because the Bishops of Multan and Lahore who could not provide mature and spiritual leadership to their flocks. Gojra (Faisalabad Diocese) became the main battlefield as most of the property held by Lahore Diocesan Trust Association in this area headed by the Bishop of Lahore was under the Episcopal authority of Multan.

These disputes were resolved by creating new Diocese within the Church of Pakistan, Gojra (Faisalabad Diocese) being one of them.

After the death of late Bishop Inayat Masih of Lahore Diocese the new Bishop of Lahore Alexander John Malik rapidly took two bold and secret steps.

(A). He re-registered the Lahore Diocesan Trust Association in the year 1985 with strange and dynamic changes in the Articles of Association of the Trust originally registered under Companies Act of 1913 in the year 1942.

The original Diocese of Lahore had a legal standi under the Indian Church Act of 1927 and was overviewed by the Metropolitan of Calcutta, the Secretary of State in Council and the Governor General of India in Council. The Executive Committee of Lahore Diocese formed the governing board of LDTA (Lahore Diocesan Trust Association) and had properties all over Pakistan, from Karachi to Peshawar under its administrative control. Two big property-holding bodies namely THE CHURCH MISSIONARY TRUST ASSOCIATION and ZANANA MISSIONARY TRUST ASSOCIATION transferred their property assets to LDTA (Lahore Diocesan Trust Association) in 1956/1957. The Government of India and Indian Church Trustees also transferred the properties vested in them in 1947/1948.

The cleverest Bishop of Lahore Alexander John Malik sold a number of valuable properties during 1980 to 1997 keeping the major portion of the sale consideration in his own pocket by under-invoicing the figures, which is easy in Pakistan. These properties were sold all over Pakistan and there is no resolution on record regarding prior permission of respective Diocese or the LDTA (Lahore Diocesan Trust Association) or the Diocesan Council.

(B). The Bishop of Lahore Alexander John Malik further strengthened his grip on LDTA  (Lahore Diocesan Trust Association) by making the amendments in the constitution of the Lahore Diocese in 1982 and then again in 1996. It is interesting to note that nobody in the Diocese of Lahore had a copy of its constitution to make comparisons.

In the year 1996 a new constitution contrary to the pervious and that of the constitution of the SYNOD, Church of Pakistan (the Supreme Supervisory and Legislative body of the Church of Pakistan) was registered under Societies Act without the approval of the Executive Committee of the Lahore Diocesan Council and that of the Lahore Diocesan Council. This particular constitution denies the supremacy of SYNOD of the Church of Pakistan. The only reason being that he should not be accountable to any forum whereas the main portion in the Diocesan Council and the Executive Committee of the Lahore Diocesan Council consisted of Diocesan employees who were under consistence threat of removal from services with a single stroke of pen and had to be Yes-Persons.

(C). While these practices were going on in the Lahore Diocese the Bishop of Sialkot Diocese Pervaiz Samuel was busy playing his own games with the properties of the Church of Scotland.  Even here the main portion of the money coming through the sale of properties was illegally and criminally shared under the table amongst the Attorneys of the Church of Scotland and the Bishop of Sialkot.

A Christian lawyer of Supreme Court of Pakistan conducted an investigation quite recently and the Attorneys were removed for some time in 2003/2004. Later they got restored in spite of the evidence against them for reasons best known to the Church of Scotland.

(D). In a similar fashion the Bishop of Raiwind Samuel Robert Azraiah gave power of Attorney to one of his very close associates to dispose-off the properties at his disposal.

2. Personal values of the Bishops/Pastors of the Church of Pakistan:

A close study of the personal lives of the Bishops elected after 1980 would reveal lack of maturity and commitment, abuse of power and resources, poor ethical and moral values, illegal sale of properties and dirty politics.

Unfortunately the whole system of the Church of Pakistan has vested in the hands of a few who monopolized the affairs because they were aided by the Pastors and Laymen who either were ignorant of the facts, were cowards or were so weak that they could not speak the truth or take stand thus becoming the basic fabric of the corrupt Church.

Following few examples will show the point.

(A). In 1994 Pastor Mano R. Shah was elected as the Bishop of Peshawar Diocese, although he was not properly adopted in the Church of Pakistan by the process of unified with the Church of Pakistan. At the time of election of the Bishop of Peshawar the bishops of Raiwind and Sialkot facilitated him by (1) getting a forged letter of unification from the former Bishop of Peshawar (2) Nomination papers of a particular candidate were rejected through conspiracy to facilitate the success of Pastor Mano R. Shah. (3) The issue of his second marriage was overlooked in spite of constitutional restrains.

Later when he went to work with United Society for the Propagation of Gospel, London (USPG) as fulltime Secretary, Samuel Robert Azraiah of Raiwind Diocese dumped his resignation against the rules and constitution of the Church of Pakistan.

(B). Bishop of Raiwind Diocese Samuel Robert Azraiah after been defeated in the election of the Moderator in the Synod of 1995 joined hands with the Bishop of Lahore Alexander John Malik to keep themselves away from the Synod until Samuel Robert Azraiah was re-elected as Moderatior in 1997 by the Executive Committee of the Synod of the Church of Pakistan. Samuel Robert Azraiah wanted to become the Bishop of Karachi thus he delayed the elections of the SYNOD supposed to be held in the year 1997. He further funded the Court cases against the Bishop-elect of Karachi Diocese Ijaz Inayat Masih and supported the cases against him at all levels. He thus laid the basic of the crises within the Church of Pakistan.

It would be interesting to note that he has applied for American nationality, (which demands a nine months stay in States in one year), while he is taxing his poor Diocese whose constitution says that the Bishop of the Diocese can not stay out of the Diocese for more then six months. He is also accused of sharing women with Marvin Pervaiz (Director Church World Service Pakistan/Afghanistan) and Bishop of Sialkot Pervaiz Samuel in the same room in each other’s presence.

(C). Bishop of Sialkot Pervaiz Samuel the so-called Chief Sahib is notorious for women, alcohol and selling Church properties. At one time Bishop of Lahore Alexander John Malik used to say about him that it is a Sin to call him a Bishop but these days Bishop of Lahore seems to have forgotten his statements regarding the Bishop of Sialkot.

In the year 2002 Pervaiz Samuel sold the valuable premises of St. Andrews Church at Abdullah Haroon Road Karachi through the Attorneys of the Church of Scotland through an agreement. The market value of the said project at the time of sale is over 4 billion rupees, whereas it was given away at a nominal cost of 400 million rupees only. How much went in his personal pocket?

(D). Pastor Sadiq Daniel was illegally and unconstitutionally made Bishop of Karachi by the present so-called Moderator of the Church of Pakistan and the Primate of Pakistan Alexander John Malik who does not even accept the Church of Pakistan in his prevailing constitution of the Church of Pakistan Lahore Diocesan Council and at the same time this so-called Synod and its officers have been challenged in the Honorable High Court of Sindh at Karachi wherein a restraining order against the Bishop of Lahore Alexander John Malik and his associates is still operative in Civil Suit no 970/2003.

The Rules for the Elections and Appointment of the Bishops of the Church of Pakistan and the constitution of the SYNOD of the Church of Pakistan prescribed a quorum of 16 out of 20 voters, in order to hold an election, whereas not even 12 valid voters could be listed on the day of the so-called election vide which Pastor Sadiq Daniel claims to be a Bishop. His office and election is disputed and pending adjudication before the Honorable High Court of Sindh at Karachi in Civil Suit no. 379/2002. Another order dated 25/02/2004 passed by the Civil Court of Karachi in Suit no. 150/2004 is also operative against Pastor Sadiq Daniel vide which he can not exercise any power as a Bishop of the Church of Pakistan.

(E). The Executive Committee of the Synod in 1997 had passed rather clarified the constitution that only the Pastors between the ages of 30 to 60 years are eligible to contest the elections for a Bishop. The so-called SYNOD of the Bishop of Lahore Alexander John Malik even passed those minutes in its meetings held in June 2003 at Lahore, which demanded respect of those minutes by all those participating in that Synod of 2003.

Yet Pastor Rafique Masih of Hyderabad Diocese participated in the elections of the Bishop of Hyderabad Diocese held on 07/09/2003, although he had passed the age of 60 years on 23/06/2003. This so-called election vide which Pastor Rafique Masih claims to be a Bishop of the Church of Pakistan is also challenged in the Honorable High Court of Sindh at Sukkur and Karachi and an order passed by the Learned Judge of the High Court of Sindh at Sukkur is still effective against him against which Pastor Rafique Masih has filed an appeal in the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan where his appeal is still pending without being admitted.

The Bishops reconciliation of October 30, 2004:

Afraid of the growing awareness amongst the members of the Church of Pakistan all over Pakistan who have now started to demand the accountability from all the Bishops of the Church of Pakistan, the Bishops decided to reconcile and joined hands with each other and entered into an agreement on 30/10/2004 at Sialkot.

The only motive of this so-called reconciliation is to rub each other’s back by allowing each other to sell the church properties lying within their respective Dioceses.

Bishop of Faisalabad Diocese John Samuel who once wanted the permission of LDTA to sell a piece of land in Gojra (Faisalabad Diocese) upon refusal had filed a law Suit under Section 92 CPC against the LDTA for declaration that LDTA is defunct.

This bargain resulting an agreement between the Bishops of the Church of Pakistan dated 30/10/04 was reached through the efforts of the Bishop of Sialkot Pervaiz Samuel who is facing tough resistance in Karachi against the sale of St. Andrews Church at Karachi. He had already joined hands with Pastor Sadiq Daniel of Karachi were as Bishop of Karachi Ijaz Inayat Masih had refused to be a part of this bargain and also refused to enter into any agreement that allows the Bishops of the Church of Pakistan or anybody else to sell the Church properties. It is also important to note that the Bishop of Karachi Ijaz Inayat Masih has filed a Civil Suit no. 970/2003 in the Honorable High Court of Sindh at Karachi where he has been able to obtain a Status Quo against the sale of all the properties of the Church of Pakistan.

At the same time Bishop of Lahore Diocese Alexander John Malik wanted to get-rid of the case pending in Court of the District Judge, Lahore regarding LDTA. The first section labeled as “A” in the reconciliation agreement facilitates the Church property sellers. Thus some consideration and right to sell the land has been given to John Samuel of Faisalabad, thus this so-called reconciliation. It is also noteworthy that the Bishop of Faisalabad John Samuel has brought huge agricultural estate in his native village CHAK # 48 of Sahiwal, although he always complains of shortage of Money in his own Diocese.

In the present situation Bishop of Karachi Ijaz Inayat Masih who no longer wishes to stand in line with the present Episcopal leadership of the Church of Pakistan has termed his efforts as a ‘Reformation Movement’, creating awareness among the masses so that accountability takes its course in a democratic manner.

Much encouraged by the response he feels that the Church of Pakistan has to go a long way for the restoration of its ministries. People from all over Pakistan have responded positively to the ‘Reformation Movement’, where as Bishop of Karachi Ijaz Inayat Masih wants more time to take his mission to the people at large. In many ways there are good signs of maturity among people, which may one day turn the tide in the Church of Pakistan.

3rd December 2004

Let all see Lord Jesus Christ.

CNI.Gujranwala. Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be”. (Matthew 24:23-27)

Today I read a report that during a “Healing Crusade” conducted by Mr. Ernest Mall in Rawalpindi from 1st to 3rd October 2004. Lord Jesus Christ came or “descended” at Saint John’s School Rawalindi, and the Holy Spirit “Moved” at that place. Yet we who live in Gujranwala did not see our Lord. It is true that our Lord Jesus Christ is always with us and when we are praying and gathered for worship He is among us. He fore told us that “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen”. (Matthew 28:18-20)

When Lord Jesus Christ is with us, do we need to announce that He has come to “A” place? Certainly not. But to the misfortune of our Christian Community that is already in the claws of “False Prophets” Christ comes and no one knows next door. It is an out right blasphemous statement. We must remember that when our Lord Jesus Christ will come as it was told by Mr. Mall at Rawalpindi, we would not need “News Papers” or “Magazines” or “Press Reporters” to tell us that Lord Has come. He will not come “secretly” to a city accompanied by these so-called “Faith Healers and Drama Stagers”.  The entire world will see Him and the “Faithful” will welcome Him in Clouds. He will come with a “Host of Angels” and all will see Him, even those who “Pierced” Him will also see Him. “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen”. (Revelation 1:7)

Sure Lord Jesus Christ is coming soon, yet He will not come, concealing Him and He will not come to be crucified again for the sins of mankind and the sins “False Teachers, Preachers and Prophets”. He will come to “Judge”. It is written, “For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God”. (Hebrews 10:26-31).

What these so-called un-educated “False Prophets” are doing to the churches in Pakistan, this is not the way our Lord wants. These “False Prophets” come to Pakistan to undo what the local pastors and preachers done and brought  people to Christ. These groups “cash” our efforts and earn huge sums of money and go back to America or Europe after misleading the people of Lord.

Is there any one who can make them understand and convince these people that we already have enough apostasy, without them, we are fighting the Evil forces of Devil that sends its “disciples” as Crusaders, Faith Healers and Singers”. What price would they be happy to take for leaving and misguiding the poor Christians of Pakistan? Our people need bread yet they are given “False Healing”. They are hungry and thirsty, suffering from lack of education and dying for lack of medical facilities. Yet all they get from such peoples is the “false healing”. The fact can be verified at any level that since these “Faith Healers” has started to come to Pakistan, more and more “Private Hospitals” have been built by the doctors. If they really has the gift of healing people from all their diseases, why we have more sick people and even more “private hospitals”. And over the years, as Lord God said, “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me. Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered? (Jeremiah 8:20-22) If these people are God’s people then why our people in Pakistan still sick both in Soul and Body? We at least try to put “Balm” on the “Spiritually Wounded and Sick Bodies”. Yet these people come and put “Salt” in the wounds and give poison for their spiritual ailment. The physical diseases are however secondary and the local churches do take care of that aspect and need of our Christian brothers and sisters. May I request my American and European friends, we don’t need “Faith Healers” we need your moral, financial support and prayers so that, what we do it is not “undone” by the people who come through your help.

Thank you very much.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Major (Retired) Timotheus Nasir.

Bishop Nasir turns 57

CNI Gujranwala. Rt. Rev. Dr. Major Timotheus Nasir, Bishop of the Siloam Biblical Christian Churches of Pakistan, turns 57 to day the 10th of December 2004. He was born in Gujranwala. He served the Armed Forces of Pakistan in Corps of Artillery and was released on his own request as a Major, in April 1986. Thereafter he completed his theological education in 1988 and ever since serving the Lord in various capacities in the church. He was elected the first Bishop of the United Presbyterian Church of Pakistan, when the U. P. Church decided to abolish the office of Moderator and adopt the office of Bishop. He is termed as “The Most Alert Christian Leader” by the Muslim clergy of Pakistan. He has written a great number of articles on religion, apologetics and national and international topics both in English and in Urdu. Bishop Nasir has completed an easy interpretation of the New Testament and a detailed interpretation on the “Book of Revelation”. He is now working on Old Testament which he hopes to complete by the end of year 2006. Bishop Nasir will complete his 25 years of his “Written Ministry” in April 2005. (He wrote an answer to a Book “Pakistan main Masihiat [Christianity in Pakistan] by one Dr. Nadir Raza Saddiqui while still in uniform in April 1980) He was the only Christian in Pakistan who challenged “Sheikh Ahmad Dedaad” in Sialkot Pakistan, who could answer a single question of the Major Nasir on 7th October 1987. Bishop Nasir is the younger son of the renowned scholar of Twentieth Century and the greatest preacher for 56 years Late Dr. K. L. Nasir.

Christian News International has sent him a message of facilitation on the beginning of another year to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

7th December 2004

Dear Mr. George W. Bush,

With courtesy of Pakistan Christian Post.

On behalf of Christians of Pakistan and on my personal behalf, I send you the message of facilitation on your re-election as the President of the United States of America. I wish to express the deep sense of satisfaction on being re-elected for the second term in the White House. I might sound strange to you that why the Pakistani Christians are happy on your victory as you are not the President of Pakistan and we had no role in your re-election? The reason is that since 11th of September 2001, we the Christians of Pakistan are being identified with you. Your Excellency, you are being termed as a “Crusader” and fundamentalist Christian by the electronic and print media of Pakistan and we being Christians are being identified with you. The majority community of Pakistan and the Press has targeted us since you declared “war on terrorism”. The military action against Afghanistan and Iraq for which you never sought permission from the Christian community is being held responsible for the killings of “innocent civilians” in Afghanistan and Iraq. Though we have not so far invented any bullet or bomb that can differentiate or find the religion of the victims of war, yet here in Pakistan we are being held responsible for bombs and bullets that kill only Muslims and spare the life of Christians. After the terrorists attacks on World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and your bombing of terrorist targets in Afghanistan, and now in Iraq, the Christian community is being blamed for your actions. Our churches have been sprayed with bullets, worship places have been bombed even our hospitals and schools have been the target of terrorists and a good number of Christian have lost their lives or have been crippled. All Pakistani news papers are putting more and more “salt” in our wounds. That is because you are a fundamentalist Christians and the conservative American voters ensured your victory in November elections. Now as the Muslim majority has declared you “our elected President”, I thought it most appropriate to send you this belated message of facilitation. You and the Christians of Pakistan have got a new name that is “Crusaders”, I have gratefully accepted the new name given to us from Muslim majority, the Pakistani Press and silently, the government of Pakistan.

May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you and guide you in leading you the “Crusade” or the war of “Armageddon”, according to the Muslims around the worlds.

With best wishes for your success as the President of the United States of America and according to the Muslims majority of Pakistan, “our President”.

In Lord Jesus Christ,

Rt. Rev. Dr. Major (Retired) Timotheus Nasir.

A letter to Muhterma Zubeida Mustafa,

Editor “Books & Authors” Section,

The Daily Dawn,

Karachi.

Respected Ms. Zubeida Mustafa Sahiba,

This is to express my personal dissatisfaction and disappointment on your response to my objection and protest on the Article published by you on 21st November 2004. You have twisted my letter that is already on so many web sites around the world. Trying to condone the heinous guilt of the Daily Dawn, you wrote quoting me, in your “Inbox” Page 9 of “Books & Authors” you published this protest and your apology that no one can conveniently see or read.

“I feel it is my religious duty to bring to your notice the article “A code for dark times” by Jonathan Freedland (Dawn Books and Authors, Nov 21). I especially object to the references about Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. The words used for Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene in my opinion defiled the holy name of Jesus Christ. As a Christian and the Bishop of Pakistan I find the references highly offensive and demand an apology from Dawn.

Bishop Timotheus Nasir

Gujranwala.

In your “explanation” that is not an apology, you wrote, “We appreciate Bishop Nasir’s letter. We have a large number of Christian readership, both in Pakistan and foreign, and we have not received any complaint from it. The author of the book is a Christian, and so is the reviewer, and the article was published in a British newspaper. We assure Bishop Nasir that it is Dawn’s policy not to hurt the sentiments of any religious, sectarian or ethnic community.

Editor

Respected Editor, your explanation and arguments are out of place thus not acceptable to the Christians of Pakistan. We view it as a “willful Insult” of our Lord Jesus Christ by the Dawn, and you as editor stand answerable for this religious crime against Christian community of Pakistan. I couldn’t care less if you have a “large Christian readership both Pakistan and foreign”. I even don’t care that the author of the book is a Christian (like Sulman Rushdi is a Muslim) and so are my remarks for the reviewer. And the least I care where this article was published. The fact remains that in Pakistan it was Dawn or you who are responsible for the publication or reproduction and circulation of the “blasphemous” article. I am sure you know the rules and laws of Pakistan regarding such publications and reviews when it comes to Islam. Yet I am also aware of the “Fact” that you or any other news paper can write, review, publish and circulate any thing that can bring insult to our holy personage without any hesitation and care of hurting the feeling of Christian community of Pakistan. It is my experience of last fifty seven years that the “Media Mafia” takes pleasure in insulting Christianity, the Holy Bible and the Holy Personage of Christianity. I can feel the change in direction of wind in Pakistan, through its media.

It was my religious duty to bring this “willful” act of defiling the holy name of our Lord Jesus Christ and the respect worthy ladies who served our Lord, to your “casual” notice, that I did. I see no point to discuss this issue any further, yet I believe that the Dawn needed to apologize more openly and accept its crime against Christianity. However this is your county and we have no say as “Subjects” of the Islamic republic of Pakistan that once I loved more than any thing in the world and gave my youth to defend it from its enemies. Because of the “Media”, my love for Pakistan is fading too fast and news papers like Dawn are fuelling it every day to speed up decline and disappearance of the love for a country which is my motherland for centuries and the “outsiders” have taken over my motherland.

Still loyal and sincere to Pakistan,

Rt. Rev. Dr. Major (Retired) Timotheus Nasir

3rd December 2004

Bishop Timotheus Nasir’s Press Conference.

CNI. Lahore. Rt. Rev. Dr. Major (Retired) Timotheus Nasir, along with Dr. Raja Nathanial Gill Advocate, Chairman Mary Hospital Trust District Qasoor, (a boarder town 30 miles from Lahore)  Miss Sonia Gill and Mr. Kamil Nasir, held a Press Conference at Press Club Lahore at 4 PM on the “Issue of Blasphemous” article printed by the English Daily “The Daily Dawn”. The Press Conference arranged by Dr. Gill, was attended by a large number of journalists from various News Papers of Pakistan. The object for holding the Press Conference was to let the people and the Government of Pakistan know the sentiments of Christian community of Pakistan, on the “Blasphemous Article” published by the English Daily, “The Daily Dawn” on 21st November 2004. In this, the “Daily Dawn” published an introduction of a book written by one “Jonathan Freedland”, quoting highly derogatory and blasphemous parts of the book, “A Code for Dark Times”. In that abusive language is also used for Mary Magdalene, held in high esteem by the Christians (at least in Pakistan). Bishop Nasir, in a written statement in Urdu, demanded a “ban” on the “Daily Dawn” and arrest of the Chief Editor, the staff and the editor in-charge of “Books & Authors” publication that is published every Sunday under the “Blasphemy Laws” of Pakistan. He demanded “Death Penalty” for the people responsible for this blasphemous article that was published as an introduction of the book. It must be remembered that any book that contains any derogatory remarks for any prophet can not be brought to Pakistan. It is a very serious crime to import or bring in, keep, publish any portion or to give any quotation from such book. Even then the article “A Code for Dark Times” went un-noticed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Government Press Branch, Islamabad, the government of Pakistan and the national press. Bishop Nasir expressed his grief, resentment and surprise on such a “blasphemous publication” and its circulation in Pakistan that hurt the religious feelings of Christians of Pakistan. He also expressed his dissatisfaction at the attitude of National Print and Electronic Media towards Christians and Christianity. Answering a question that the book was not published in Pakistan and how could the “Daily Dawn”, be held responsible for the publication? The Bishop reminded the National Press that if the books written by Sulman Rushdi, Tasnima and Irshad Nanji can not go un-noticed by the national press, this derogatory reference, introduction of the blasphemous book and extremely “injurious paragraph” should have been noticed by the government of Pakistan and the National Press. Bishop Nasir expressed his disappointment at the attitude of the Pakistani Print and Electronic Media. Answering a strange and out of context question by a lady reporter, regarding American “atrocities” in Afghanistan and in Iraq, he said, Mr. Bush did not seek permission or advice from Pakistani Christians or from me. He added that the Press should not try to absolve it self from the guilt of overlooking the “insult” of Lord Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene, in view of American war against Iraq and bombing the holy places in Iraq. He advised the lady to refrain from taking on an issue in which the Christians of Pakistan had no role to play. He suggested her to request President General Pervaiz Musharaf to take up this issue with the American President when he meets Mr. Bush on Saturday the 4th of December 2004. (It must be remembered that after September 11th 2001, the attitude of Pakistani Print and Electronic Media is becoming more and extremely hostile and aggressive towards the Christians and Christianity) It is also worth stating that the Pakistani journalists are more interested in “Light Refreshment” than the “Actual Issue”. The person holding Press Conference must pay for “Light Refreshments” that are arranged by the Press Club according to eating habits of Pakistani journalists. Further it is noticed that the Pakistani journalists take “Christian Issues” very lightly and are more interested in “Light Refreshments” than the Issue it self.

Issues that are not Issues.

CNI Gujranwala.  Though as a “Christian subject” of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, I have not right to comment or give my views on the “Issues” of opposition, and “None Issues” for common Pakistani. Yet my love for Pakistan forces me to write what I see according to the best of my understanding of the present political situation in Pakistan. Ever since the general elections in Pakistan in year 2002, the political parties who could not win enough seat in the National Assembly of Pakistan and in the Senate, are struggling for “Democracy, Sanctity of the Constitution and the Supremacy of Parliament”. During past two years, the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), Muslim League (Nawaz Group) and the Muthida Majlas-e-Amal (MMA) have done nothing for their voters. Each party has its own agenda, in which their unfortunate voters have no place. PPPP is trying to bring back their “Run Away” leader “Ms. Benazir Bhutto, PML (N) wants Mr. Nawaz Sharif back and MMA (an alliance of religious political parties) is still looking for an agenda. We find them in opposition at national level with majority party PML (Q) and its Allies. Yet at Provincial level they are with PML (Q) in Baluchistan Provincial Assembly. It must be remembered that in October 2002 general elections, the turnout of voters was very low. The low turnout factor reveals that the people of Pakistan do not trust the politicians any more. They used their right to vote very reluctantly in 2002 elections. The people of Pakistan has experienced that the politicians can not deliver any good to   them. If Mr. Z. A. Bhutto with almost total support of the people of Pakistan failed to bring any good to the people of Pakistan, who else could do it? From November 1988 to October 1999, we experienced, that all politicians looked after their own interest and made money out of “public money”. Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, then Benazir and again Nawaz Sharif failed to resolve important national issues and provide any relief to common citizen of Pakistan. We are standing right there, where we were in November 1968. In 36 years all that we saw and experienced was agitation against the government of the time. No one cared for the issues that are now haunting the Pakistani people. The people of Pakistan are least interested who is ruling them and the kind and type of government they have. Their problems have not been ever solved. Let us see what are the real “Issues”? A man in Military Uniform, the sanctity of the constitution an supremacy of Parliament, democracy, military dictatorship or the long term welfare of common citizens of this country. People of Pakistan are dying of hunger, non existent jobs, falling volume of “cash crops” lack of water supply, (even drinking water) health, social evils, price hick of daily use commodities and corruption in our society. Yet in two years time the politicians have used their energy for the issues that could be resolved after giving some relief to common Pakistani. The real “Issues” are preserving water resources, building of “Kala Bagh Dam”, eradication of corruption and bribery that is deep rooted in Pakistani society. Making Pakistan a safe place not only for Pakistani people but for the foreign tourists who can bring in huge amount of foreign exchange to Pakistan. (The tourist industry has almost finished in Pakistan). Yet the short sighted politicians are demanding what they could not deliver or are unable to deliver. In 1977 the politician’s sole goal was to remove Mr. Bhutto. They had no agenda for “Post Bhutto Era”. Since 1990; every opposition followed the same agenda to over throw the government. The worst was seen in 1993 when the “Civilian President” dismissed Mr. Nawaz Sharif’s government and when the Supreme Court of Pakistan restored his government, the “Civilian President and the “Princess of Democracy” could not wait and started the agitation and only after the intervention of the then Army Chief, both President and Prime Minister had to resign. In 1993 Benazir came to power and her own party elected President dismissed her government on charges of corruption and financial misappropriation. Mr. Nawaz Sharif became the next Prime Minister in 1997 and tried to become an Emperor of Pakistan. He dismissed the Chief Justice of Pakistan in most disgraceful manner, the President had to resign and less than a year latter dismissed the army chief. During the “four” democratic governments no one cared for democracy. In January 1999, Qazi Hussain Ahmad created a law and order situation when the then Indian Prime Minister was visiting Lahore. However these four democratic governments broke all previous records of corruption and robbed the nation in most cruel way.

I very openly admit that I was never in favor of democracy and will never support democracy in Pakistan. Yet the champions of Democracy never learned and practiced democracy. In September 1999, the ARD or MRD or APC (I don’t care what these abbreviations stood for) had already started an agitation or movement to get rid of Mr. Nawaz Sharif. Due to the foolishness of Mr. Nawaz Sharif, General Pervaiz Musharraf had to take over and remove Mr. Nawaz Sharif on 12th October 1999, ARD, MRD, or APC celebrated. Five years latter the same people have started a movement to remove the present government and the President’s Uniform. Yet the people of Pakistan have never witnessed any movement or agitation against any social evil. No one has ever given a call for any movement or agitation against every day rising prices of every thing. No one ever started any agitation or movement against high crime rate, illegal fire arms, smuggling, drug trafficking, bribery, national thieves who are sitting in foreign land. No politician has ever condemned the on going terrorist activities and sectarian violence and religious discrimination. No one has ever started a movement to build dearly needed water reservoirs. What all they have been doing and are doing is to topple the government. Force General Mushrraf to take off his military uniform and restore the sanctity of Constitution and the supremacy of Parliament. No politician is interested in resolving small and big national and public issues. Their object and aim is to rule and rob this unfortunate county. I couldn’t care less if a General in Uniform or a politician rules the country, or democracy or dictatorship as long as he/she can works for a safe and prosperous Pakistan. Who can steer the nation through troubled waters. Who has power and ability to make decisions and implement them in the best interest of the nation. Who can meet the immediate needs of his/her people and foresee the events that can affect Pakistan in the long run. Who can rule the country with dignity and bring honor to his/her people. If I had a choice, I would not mind a person in uniform keeping two portfolios if he can rule the country in a better way. As Christian “subject” of Pakistan, I have lot of complaints and reservations plus resentments against President General Pervaiz Musharraf and the present government of Pakistan. Few days ago I withdrew my support for General Musharraf and the present government as a result of constant and prolonged ignorance of both President Musharraf and the present government on a very sensitive issue that brought insult to Christianity. Yet my protest has nothing to do with the “Uniform” of President Pervaiz Musharraf. In Pakistan insult to Christianity has reached an optimum limit where no concerned Christian can keep silent any more. Yet “President’s Uniform” is not my “issue”, my issue is to try and stop “Insult of Christianity”. My issue is my Christian people, their miseries and their deplorable condition in Pakistan. My issue is the safety of Christians living in Pakistan and their welfare. I can’t wait for the restoration of democracy, the sanctity of constitution and supremacy of Parliament. By that time we the Christian might be annihilated by the tough and rough rules and the attitude of the government toward the Christian minority. Let the President stay in uniform, let the present government complete its tenure, my struggle for the rights of my people will continue without the restoration of democracy.

What really the opposition is doing? It is telling the people of Pakistan, wait, let us restore democracy, the sanctity of the constitution and supremacy of Parliament, and then we would see what we can do for you. Right now help us to remove the “Uniform”, go for fresh elections, bring criminals and rejected political leadership back to rob you yet again. Let us destroy what has been restored so far and destroy Pakistan for the sake of democracy and once we achieve our goal, then we would see what can be done for you. Our Issue is not a safe and prosperous Pakistan. Our Issue is regaining power to rob you once again. Our “Issue” is not Islam, but Islamabad. United we should destroy and divide Pakistan. Our “Issue” is to hand over Baluchistan to Iran, North Western Frontier Province to Afghanistan or Taliban, Punjab, Sindh, Kashmir and Northern Areas to India. Allah Allah Kher Sallah. The End of Pakistan is a dream of opposition, the government and the people o Pakistan must fail them.

Bishop Timotheus Nasir

Arthur James, A Devoted Servant of Lord.

CNI. Gujranwala. The “Silver Jubilee” of the “teaching ministry” of Rev. Dr. Arthur James, Principal of Gujranwala Pakistan was celebrated in the premises of the Gujranwala Theological Seminary Gujranwala, Pakistan on the eve of Friday the 26th November 2004. Rev. Rev. Dr. James is also the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan, a collation of the United Presbyterian Church of Pakistan affiliated with the Presbyterian Church USA and the Lahore Church Council, that came in existence in year 1994. He is a scholar, writer and a teacher of theology. Dr. James completed his basic Seminary education in year April 1972 and served as Pastors in the most difficult areas of Pakistan. Iqbal Nisar, on 10th January 1990, Dr James was appointed Principal by the “Board of Governors” of the Seminary. Ever since he never looked back and earned respect from his students, friends and foes. Dr. Arthur James has the credit of bringing the church out side the civil courts at least in Gujranwala. He is a kind hearted person who goes an “extra mile” to help the needy people and for reconciliation in the church. He has a vision of getting all Presbyterians churches together to form a strong Bible believing Presbyterian Church in Pakistan.

His students from 1979 to date decided to celebrate the Silver Jubilee as a “teacher”. This grand and well planned function was arranged by his students in the premises of Gujranwala Theological Seminary on 26th November 2004 at 4 PM which was largely attended by his present and former students, Bishop Alexander John Malik, Bishop of Lahore Diocese, Bishop Samuel Perveez, Bishop of Sialkot Diocese, Bishop Samuel Robert Azraiah, Bishop of Raiwind Diocese, D. Ajaml Khan, former Moderator of Presbyterian Church of Pakistan. Mr. Tariq C. Qaisar former member of National Assembly, Mr. Haroon Qaisar, member of National Assembly, and an “outsider, Bishop” Timotheus Nasir. (There is a long list of notable Christians from Gujranwala, various parts of Pakistan and abroad who attended this auspicious occasion). Church leaders from all over the world sent him the message of facilitation for his outstanding Ecclesiastical  and teaching service as a “Professor” in Gujranwala Theological Seminary, Gujranwala

The Silver Jubilee Celebration started with Dr. and Mrs. Arthur James riding a “Bughi” (Let me call it a large Chariot!) while the students, pastors, sang Psalm No 24. (Rab Khdawand badsha hay, oh jalal da badsha hay). Flowers petals were showered on him as he entered the big Shamiana (Tent). Rev. Liaqat Qaisar from Full Gospel Assemblies gave a heart touching message and the Choir sang beautiful songs. He was presented with gifts from his students and other guests. A grand “Fire Work” show was also arranged in his honor. Dr. Maqsood Kamil and Mrs. Noshen Khan conducted this very well organized ceremony. Later the guests were served with dinner. The Christian News International (CNI) is pleased to release this news for our readers all over the word and in Pakistan. May the Lord bless Rev. Dr Arthur James and Mrs. Arthur James for their loyalty to the Lord Jesus Christ and for their long and outstanding service that they have rendered to the body of Lord Jesus Christ. We pray that the Lord may bless him and his wife and use them for His glory in years to come. We also say, “Well done” Dr. Maqsood Kamil, Mrs. Noshen Khan and the old and present student body of the Gujranwala Theological Seminary for setting precedence for the recognition of the services of the Christian leaders in Pakistan that has so far been forgotten or ignored.

Who should be Hanged?

CNI. Gujranwala. What if some Christian has published some quotes from Salman Rushdi, Tasnima, or Irshad Manji’s books? By now, the news paper or magazine office must have been burnt along with people in side it and the owner or editor of that news paper or magazine would have been either killed or put behind the bars under Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code. (Please remember the fate of Frontier Post few years ago). Yet when it comes to Christianity no one bothers not even Christian leadership. But to day, I feel it is my religious duty to bring to the notice of national and international Christian Community what has been written by the English Daily, “The Daily Dawn Lahore”, Sunday Magazine dated 21st November 2004. In its Sunday Magazine, “Books & Authors” page 5 “Articles” under the heading of “A Code for Dark  Times” has introduced a book written by some “Jonathan Freedland”. What the “hell bound writer” has written, I ask for forgiveness from God and from Lord Jesus Christ before I copy it here.

“ En rout, the author sets out an alternative history of Christianity, arguing that the church has maintained a 2000 years conspiracy to falsify the true story of Jesus---concealing his marriage with Mary Magdalene, the child they had together and the survival of the holy bloodline to this very day”.

It is Six Column “Rubbish” that was printed by Dawn/Guardian News Service. I would like to ask the editor of the Daily Dawn, who is responsible for such a “Blasphemous” article and why he and the other editorial staff and the people responsible for introduction of such a statement went un-noticed and why the Daily Dawn has gone un-punished. Has the government of Pakistan gone blind, the ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Information & Communication? What has happened to our Muslim “Zealots” and scholars? And finally, what about the Christian leadership that is deep asleep or may be drunk.

If the Government of Pakistan does not take any punitive action and cancel the registration and close down the “Daily Dawn”, we shall not rest and will not tolerate such news paper that has printed “blasphemous” extract of the book “A Code of Dark Times”. I hope that all Christians and their leadership will now come forward as a block and if the government does not close down the “Daily Dawn” we should close it down for once and for all. Let me and the Christians see who is put in jail or hanged for defiling the Holy name of Lord Jesus Christ. PS: I would request the readers to please tell all Christian Community to stand together for Lord Jesus Christ and His Divine Honor.

CHRISTIAN VIEWS ON NEWS.

Dear Dr. Shahid Masood,

This morning, I watched your “Religious Program” [Views on News] “repeat telecast”, I will bitterly disagree with on the Life, Death and Resurrection  of our Lord Jesus Christ or “you’re Isa Aleh Salam”. I do understand that it is the birth right of any Muslim to insult and misinterpret the Holy Bible, and while you do it, you even forget the Holy Koran. The “Crucifixion” or “Death” of Lord Jesus Christ that you debate is very clearly mentioned in the Holy Koran. Please read what Allah has said in the Holy Koran.

Surah No IXX “Marium”

John the Baptist or “Hazrat Yahya Aleh Salam” was fore told about the Death of Lord Jesus Christ,

19.12] O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child

[19.13] And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil),

[19.14] And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient.

[19.15] And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life

[19.16] And mention Marium in the Book when she drew aside from her family to an eastern place;

[19.17] So she took a veil (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our spirit, and there appeared to her a well-made man.

[19.18] She said: Surely I fly for refuge from you to the Beneficent God, if you are one guarding (against evil).

Only Lord Jesus Christ is “Pure”.

[19.19] He said: I am only a messenger of your Lord: That I will give you a pure boy.

[19.20] She said: When shall I have a boy and no mortal has yet touched me, nor have I been unchaste?

[19.21] He said: Even so; your Lord says: It is easy to Me: and that We may make him a sign to men and a mercy from Us, and it is a matter which has been decreed.

[19.22] So she conceived him; then withdrew herself with him to a remote place.

The Death of Lord Jesus Christ Confirmed.

[19.27] And she came to her people with him, carrying him (with her). They said: O Marium! surely you have done a strange thing.

[19.28] O sister of Haroun! your father was not a bad man, nor, was your mother an unchaste woman.

[19.29] But she pointed to him. They said: How should we speak to one who was a child in the cradle?

[19.30] He said: Surely I am a servant of Allah; He has given me the Book and made me a prophet;

[19.31] And He has made me blessed wherever I may be, and He has enjoined on me prayer and poor-rate so long as I live;

[19.32] And dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me insolent, unblessed;

[19.33] And peace on me on the day I was born, and on the day I die, and on the day I am raised to life.

[19.34] Such is Isa, son of Marium; (this is) the saying of truth about which they dispute.

Dear Dr. Shahid Masood, can you deny these Verses of the Holy Koran?

If Allah did not say that Lord Jesus Christ would not die, the Holy Koran would not have mentioned “His death before Resurrection”. The Holy Koran is a witness to this fact. Therefore the Holy Koran becomes not only witness of the “Death” of Lord Jesus Christ, but it has become an authority for the Biblical account of the “Crucifixion and Death” of Lord Jesus Christ, and that is a straight forward Truth.

Surah No IV. “The Women” or Surah Nisssa”

As most of Muslim scholars claim that Lord Jesus Christ did not die on “Cross” they give reference of Surrah Al-Nissa, Verses 157 and 158. It is written,

4.157] And their saying: Surely we have killed the Messiah, Isa son of Marium, the apostle of Allah; and they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them so (like Isa) and most surely those who differ therein are only in a doubt about it; they have no knowledge respecting it, but only follow a conjecture, and they killed him not for sure.

[4.158] Nay! Allah took him up to Himself; and Allah is Mighty, Wise.

In these verses of the Holy Koran, Allah “Rebukes” the Jewish claim that they put Lord Jesus Christ to Death. Allah has rebuked Jews that you have not killed “Him” [Lord Jesus Chris]. The claim of Jews that they killed Lord Jesus Christ stands false as the Jews at that time had no legal authority to put to death or kill any one. This was the prerogative of the “rulers” of that time. The “Judea” was ruled by the Roman Empire and only Romans had the authority to “sentence” any body to death and Crucify him. The Jews were only “Subjects or Slaves of Roman Empire”. The Roman Governor did not care for the allegations of Jews. He found Lord Jesus Christ “innocent”. Yet when they alleged that our Lord claims to be “The King of Jews”,[this is a different topic] only then reluctantly the Roman Governor sentenced Lord Jesus Christ to death. Crucifixion was the Roman  way of “executing” a condemned person, Jews practiced “Hanging or Stoning”  [Sangsar] of a condemned man. Therefore it is rightly stated in the Holy Koran that Jews did not kill Lord Jesus Christ [Isa].

The Muslim scholars and you, yourself defend your point of view according your self assumptions, while the Holy Koran has clearly stated the Death of Lord Jesus Christ [Isa] before raising Him.

I wonder who is right? Allah, the Holy Koran or the Muslim scholars, that includes you. I am very sure that the Holy Koran is right and rest all of you are wrong.

May the Lord Jesus Christ give you enough wisdom to understand His Word “Anjeel”  [Angeel is also a different topic that can be discussed with and Muslim scholar]  and may Allah grant you better understanding of the Holy Koran.

I would request you to restrain from commenting on the Biblical Truths and try to teach Muslims the very meanings of Islam and Holy Koran, as they including you have drifted away from Allah and the Holy Koran.

Faithfully,

Rt. Rev. Dr. Major (Retired) Timotheus Nasir

A Protest Note.

CNI. Gujranwala. Rt. Rev. Dr. Major (Retired) Timotheus Nasir sent a protest note to the President of Pakistan on his remarks on Bible, that does not suit and  are not appropriate remarks by the “Head of State”, said Bishop Nasir. In his column “Ghair Siasi Baten” under the heading of “Dosra Gall” (The other cheek). Mr. Abdul Qadar Hasan wrote, “Islam has no such instructions” to “turn the other cheek” therefore the President in an “Iftar Party” (Muslims Breaking Fast Party) hoisted by Sheikh Abdul Rasheed, Federal Minister for Information, Government of Pakistan in Islamabad, reportedly said while commenting on the roll of Press, I am a Muslim and not a Christian who will according to the teachings of Hazrat Essa Aleh Islam (Lord Jesus Christ) “turn his other cheek”. On the bases of these remarks of the President General Pervaiz Musharaf, Mr. A. Q. Hasan wrote, “because the Islamic law does not indicate religious tradition of “turning the other cheek”. Therefore the President rightly said that “he will not turn the other cheek”, Mr. A. Q. Hasan added. He further wrote that, even Hazrat Essa (Lord Jesus Christ) did not “turn the other cheek” to the cruel and ruthless rulers of his time but challenged them. Mr. Hasan added, “turning of the other cheek” doctrine was concocted by the “coward” and “idol sitting” followers of Hazrat Essa (Lord Jesus Christ) to save their lives from the wrath of the cruel and ruthless rulers of the time. Bishop Nasir spoke to Mr. Abdul Qadar Hasan via telephone soon after he read the column. He told Mr. Hasan that he has misquoted and misinterpreted the saying of Lord Jesus Christ. He told Mr. Hasan that the teachings on “turning the other cheek” are not concocted they are very much part of the Holy Bible. He told Mr. Hasan that the Christians are blessed with more patience, tolerance, strong will and desire of peace than Muslims. In absence of such blessings, the Muslims have become more aggressive and they can be easily “broken or beaten”. Christians do offer their “other cheek” to display their patience and strong will and determination for peace. Yet if any one tries to “strike the cheek” for the “third time”, they hit back with their strong and powerful “Fist” with full force and break his jaws. Bishop Nasir also said that this statement is absolutely wrong and malicious that Lord Jesus Christ did not teach to “turn the other cheek”, and His followers concocted this teaching, it is written in the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 5 Verse 39.

Thereafter Bishop Timotheus Nasir wrote his protest note to President General Pervaiz Musharaf on 2nd November 2004 and sent it through Registered Mail. In his letter to the President, he said that your remarks and reference on the Holy Bible and Lord Jesus Christ are extremely disturbing and annoying for the Christian community. As Head of State, such remarks, does not suit your status and that such remarks were not expected from you as the head of State. Bishop Nasir further added that your (the President’s) remarks clearly reveal that Christian minority has no importance for you and that you have proved that you are not a moderate Muslim as you claim to be. You have used the language of Mullahs, the Bishop added. He also wrote to the President that you (the President) have undermined the status of Christian community in Pakistan in a very cruel way. The Bishop reminded the President they he and his church extended its full support to him on every issue, but you have disappointed us. He said in his letter to the President, that If Mr. Abdul Qadar Hassan has misquoted you, please condemn and negate his remarks. The Bishop added that we have already developed a feeling that we the Christian minority are not the “citizens” of Pakistan any more we have been down graded  as “subjects” of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

When asked if Bishop Nasir ever faced such situation during his military service? “Many times”, he replied and I have always given the same interpretation of “turning the other cheek” that I have given to Mr. Abdul Qadar Hasan. Narrating a similar question by a senior Major, while hew was serving in Abbottabad, the Bishop told that on one Friday evening while all officers were sitting in “Mess” waiting for P. T. V drama “Andhera Ujalla” a newly posted officer wanted to ask the same question. I have always tried to avoid religious discussion as it is forbidden in army as a rule. Yet the Major insisted on a very “harmless and simple” question. I knew his question yet hesitantly, I agreed to answer “The” question. The Major asked, is it written in “your Bible” that if some one strikes you on one cheek, turn the other to him? I said, Yes Sir. “what if I strike your cheek”, what will be your reaction? Nothing, I shall offer you my “other cheek”. And if I strike your “other cheek”? Again my answer was, “nothing”. What if I strike for the third time? At that time I told the Major, hold it Sir; I have been taught to offer my “cheek” only twice. If I have slightest idea, doubt or feeling that you are going to “strike” me for the third time, I will give a “punch “on your nose and break it along with your jaws and teeth. Please note, I told the Major that it is also written, and Jesus said, “if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one” according to the Gospel of Saint Luke Chapter 22 verse 37. I added that our Lord told us to avoid confrontation even at the cost of turning both of your cheeks, yet if it is not avoidable, use full force. I served with Major Saud Alam for six more months but he did not ask any further question. (Though latter we became good friends). Bishop Nasir told that he has written an answer to the column of Mr. Abdul Qadar Hasan and refuted his column, topic by topic. I told Mr. Hasan, Lord Jesus Christ never confronted  or challenged the rulers. He rebuked hypocrite religious leadership. On contrary, he observed all rules and laws. He used to pay “tax” (which Muslims usually don’t). Had He challenged and confronted the rulers, the entire world would have been followers of Christ. God does not want that people should obey by force and fear of death. He desires that every human being should submit to Him through His love and grace. God does not want man or woman to fulfill “Faraz” (Obligation) but to walk on the right path that leads to eternal life through faith in Lord Jesus Christ. Yet you have chosen the wrong path and I am concerned about your awful end.

It is absolutely wrong that Lord Jesus never taught to “turn the other cheek”. As I said earlier that our Lord tells us to avoid confrontation, and if by offering our “other cheek” an angry person can be satisfied, we must do it. To try to avoid “Fittna” trouble and mischief is not a coward-ness. One has to be very brave to “offer the other cheek”. If a Muslim can not understand the teaching of our Lord, It does not matter much to any Christian. History is witness to the bravery of Christians. The Apostles preached Gospel at the peril of their life. They were persecuted and martyred, yet the preaching of Gospel did not stop. They won the world for Christ without having the power of sword behind them. The Crusaders fought furious battles, they lost many battles yet they kept coming to free the Holy Land. They never gave up. Today the nations identified with Christianity are ruling the world. Today it is the honor of Muslims to hide in “caves of Tora Bora”. If Osama is so brave, why is he hiding? Why Saddam Hussain was discovered from a hole? May I ask the “brave Muslim masked men”, is it a “manly act to abduct innocent people, even their fellow Muslims”? More over since when the “brave Muslim men” have started observing “Hijab” (vale or mask)?

A true Christian never sat idol. He is always at work. Preaching, teaching, helping the humanity, and in so many other ways they are the most people in the world. Today, from a needle to a space craft is being manufactured and built by the countries identified with Christianity. The quality of their goods and products is far above than any Muslim state. Where as the Muslims are living on “imported prosperity”.

Lastly Bishop Nasir once again expressed his disappointment on the remarks of the President General Pervaiz Musharaf. He said, if the President had to tell the Press that he can fight back, he did not need to bring in the Holy Bible. It is sad but not unexpected. Under the situation, we the Christians and our faith is the softest target to please MMA, the Islamic party’s alliance.

Demoncracy.

By Rt. Rev. Dr. Major (Retired) Timotheus Nasir

Introduction.

The word “Democracy” may have hundreds of thousands of definition, yet it can be termed as the “personal collective will of the majority” at all levels. When we talk of “Political Democracy” it means it means establishment of a system that suits the common interest of the majority of the people in a country any where in the world. It is immaterial in democracy whether the common interest has any thing to do with religious and moral values that a good society must have. My “theological doctrine” of democracy is that democracy is “collective disobedience” of God that brings the wrath of God on mankind. In the Holy Bible we find this collective disobedience. From “Day One” till today, the majority has always  been corrupt and disobedient to God. From the mutely agreed disobedience of Adam and Eve till today all collective (democratic) decisions and acts of mankind are “Satanic” and against the Will of God. (Genesis. 3:1-21, 6:5-7, 11:1-9, 18:20-19:28, 37:18-29, Exodus 1:8-14, 14:10-12, 32:1-6, --------till Revelation 13:12-18, 19-21 and 20 7-10 and especially Matthew 22:14). According to the Word of God, majority “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

The Resources of Ancient and Modern Democracy.

In last century the “epidemic” of democracy started to spread in the world more openly than ever before. We can find democracy in some shape and form in ancient civilization. Greece in West and India in East is cradle of modern  democracy. Before the modern democracy many countries had democratic system of governing their respective countries or states. In my opinion the French Revolution was the bases of all modern democracies though the idea was not new. Democracy in France, came sailing in blood with the oar of sword and rudder of spear. Today the democracy has become so popular form or ruling a country or state that it is imposed on people even at the cost of war and mass killings and barbaric economic sanctions. Very recently, America went to war against Iraq to establish “democracy”. Since “day one” of American war on Iraq for the sake of democracy, started with endless and continuous destruction. No body asked the people of Iraq whether they want democracy at all. Libya went in isolation for years for sake of democracy. So is the case with Pakistan which faces the sanctions from every corner of the world for not having democracy in the country. In my opinion “Democracy” has become a “religion” rather than a system. “Great Britain” introduced democracy in British India, “the biggest Colonial Power” of that time, while still having kings and queens in their own country. In France democracy that came floating over “rivers of blood”, turned into imperialism under Napoleon Bona Part. The Europeans settlers in America fought many battles for the sake of democracy and American democracy is considered the strongest democracy in the world and the “Only Supper Power”. The Imperial Britain having every thing “royal” claims to be the mother of all democratic constitutions that was never written therefore even today the British constitution is called “conventional or traditional constitution”. (Last week the Secretary General of the “British Commonwealth” visited Pakistan and gave lengthy statements on democracy). This is the same Commonwealth that suspended the membership of Pakistan for the sake of democracy five years ago. (Certainly at that time no body needed Pakistan. After 11th September 2001,    Pakistan was “temporarily pardoned” by democracy seekers, lovers and imposers so that Pakistan could become “Front Line State” against so-called war against terrorism as we were against Soviet Union from 1979 to 1989. I call it “democratic hypocrisy”).

British Commonwealth.

What is the “British Commonwealth” in reality? It is a continuation of British Colonial Rule on papers. In reality there is nothing “common” in Commonwealth countries. The basic concept of British Commonwealth was and is to keep reminding its former “Colonial Slaves” that once they were their masters. The role of Commonwealth” has always been negative. During elections in countries like ours, its teams of “monitors” floods our land along with their media to see if the elections are being held “fairly”? They praise the “fairness of our elections while they are still in Pakistan and declare them unfair, rigged and low turnout when they go back.

Democracy from Religious and Biblical Point of View.

What I have seen and experienced about democracy it is nothing but “demoncray” or Devil. From religious point of view, it is the worst kind of system of governing and I will to explain my point of view on my statement (If 51 out of 100 tell me not to preach an teach the Holy Bible and 49 out of 100 tell to preach and teach the Holy Bible, “democratically speaking”, I must not teach and preach the Holy Bible. Should I or any one adopt all kind of sinful acts and behavior because 51 out of 100 want that, I shall not do that even 100% disagree with me). No religion ever indicated democracy that we see in present shape and form. The Holy Bible has narrated many scientific facts but no democratic indications of modern democracy are given in the Holy Bible or/and the books of other religions. The democracies that existed in old times were not on “one man/woman one vote” system. It has always been one man and few other men bases. All mankind (that includes women too) lived and is still living under the concept of “God or gods” who has revealed His/his Will/will as guideline for every human being. The adversary of God or god/gods is Devil or Evil. Look around, who has more people on His/his side and with Devil and Evil?  Devil or Evil commands the “majority” in every religion and society. From Christian point of view there are more non Christians in the world than Christians. Shall we give up Christianity only because non Christians command the majority and we have to accept their choice? Even in Christianity, there are more non believers than believers, should the believers submit to the non believers? In the Book of Revelation, we can find fewer people on God’s side and again find huge number of people who will fight the final battle against Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore I conclude that “democracy” is against the very Will of God and favors Devil only.

The Modern Democracy.

Modern democracy does not favor a good man if he is poor. It does not matter how good and intelligent a common man may be, what matters is how much one can spend for being elected. (Just look at the on going election campaign in United States of America. Can a common, intelligent, God fearing and good person be elected if he/she does not have extra wealth?) In democratic system the will of common person is respected only once in years. After casting his/her vote, he/she is forgotten. It is personal or party agenda and policies that are followed not the requirements of a common person. On the bases of so called “mandate” of common man, the rulers fulfill their own or party agenda, yet the interest of common man is not given any importance. Common man has the right to come out in the streets and chant slogans, but the democratic rulers have seldom taken notice of such demonstrations of their voters. In democracy mostly false promises are made, knowing well that these promises can not be fulfilled. Democracy brings all sorts of evils and wickedness in society. I do understand that no democratic head of state can be an angel, yet we witnessed “adultery” in the “Capital” of present world. In 1998 an adulterous person stayed in power for good two and a half years because required votes for his impeachment were not enough. A homosexual became a bishop because he had support of the majority of the people. Both these men were not selected as head of state and bishop but elected through democratic system. In United States President Bill Clinton won elections against the sitting President with the support of homosexuals. There is another kind of democracy that existed forcefully for seventy years in Soviet Union, it is still existing in many countries around the world. These countries also claim to be not only “democratic” but “peopl
